Hang with the best and Brides Choice Award

Local Photographer,
Kathy Harris Chosen to “Hang with the Best” by ASMP
And receives 2009 Bride’s Choice Award

Kathy Harris of Long Valley, has had two images, ‘Reflections’ and ‘Eyes on You’, selected by the New Jersey chapter of ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers) to be included in their Annual Fine Art Photography Competition. The judges selections are the top third of the entries submitted which will be on display for the month of April at Crane’s Mill Gallery, West Caldwell, NJ.

The gallery located in Crane’s Mill Towne Square is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and an artist reception will be held Saturday April 4, 1 – 4 p.m.

Harris continues to add new fine art images to her portfolio as well as servicing New Jersey and Connecticut by applying her talent to weddings and portraits, which has been recognized and awarded by WeddingWire.

WeddingWire, the nation’s leading wedding technology company, just announced that Kathy Harris, Photographer of Harris Photography has won the 2009 Bride’s Choice Awards™!

In its inaugural year, the Bride’s Choice Awards recognizes and honors vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. This year’s recipients represent the top three percent of the WeddingWire’s vendor community, which includes over 100,000 wedding vendors from across the U.S. That means Kathy Harris, Photographer of Harris Photography is one of the very best wedding photographers.

Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride’s Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds through surveys and reviews.

“We are excited to launch this annual award program to honor high-performing vendors based solely on the experiences of our WeddingWire community,” according to Timothy Chi, WeddingWire’s Chief Executive Officer. “this year’s receipients have set the bar high, exhibiting excellent service and expertise in the wedding industry.”

Kathy Harris, Photographer of Harris Photography would like to thank our past clients for speaking on our behalf and helping us win the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award.

Harris is not a new to the arena of awards – she received her first award dating back to 1982 from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation. In more recent years Harris’ accomplishments have included selection for a private event at the O.K. Harris Gallery, NYC; three times published in the Best of Photography Annuals, album presentation for Albums Inc, International New Talent competition winner, and “Best Body of Work” at Art Across the River.

Beyond numerous awards Harris photography is held in numerous private collections and has been featured in local and national publications.

Originally self-taught Harris regularly attends lectures and workshops continuing to improve techniques for building a diverse portfolio of strong and compelling images. The subjects of Harris’ photography is varied and multi-faceted and a continual growing experience. Images in her collection include landscape, still life, flora, location, and travel. “I always look for detail and intimacy which is so often missed, spending time in an area or with a subject to achieve the most interesting points of view. The actual subject matter of the images may vary but the approach to capturing essence and telling a story is constant.” Utilizing patience, perception, composition and opportunity to freeze a moment in time results in images designed to move and stimulate the senses and emotions of the viewer.

Harris is currently scheduling exhibits which will be announced here and on her website
http://www.kathyharrisphotographer.com/

As well as continually creating new images, Harris has developed a series of photography classes for those who are interested in learning the potential that lies within their camera and within themselves. The participants will learn to control aperture, shutter, light and composition along with detailed explanations of the technical and creative possibilities of photography. The classes will also explore the works of master photographers, and the students will critique their assignments to gain a deeper understanding of the many facets and components of creating an image.

Harris also donates her photographic services to charitable causes which has included ARC, March of Dimes, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, the National Organization of Charitable Photographers, “Make Someone Smile”; and also welcomes new inquiries.

Blue Ribbon

I recently entered PPANJ’s (Professional Photographers Association of New Jersey) annual competition for the first time –
and Yeah – I received a Blue Ribbon

“Power Walkers” was on display last week at the annual PPANJ convention in Atlantic City –

PPA competitions are open to all subjects of photography – not just weddings and PPA members are also not just wedding photographers.

PPA is a national organization with state chapters – and the standards are set high – in particular in NJ – PPANJ uses a panel of 5 judges who are nationally accredited photographers and hold nationally status for judging.

Entering competition pushes me as a photographer – this is then an ongoing educational process – with the benefit of pushing myself to see and capture great images and moments of time that will stand up to time.
